Logistics Management

 Logistics and Digitalization

Digitalization takes logistics to a different dimension.

The revolution of our age; internet, digitalization, e commerce. The effects of these terms, which we hear frequently nowadays, on the social structure make many businesses that cannot use them as a tool to go bankrupt or not to work effectively. Thanks to the internet, customers can shop without any contact and without going to the store, which is today's e-commerce concept. In this way, institutions or customers can contact the seller from whom they want to buy the products with the help of the seller or another intermediary e-commerce site. These changes in consumption behavior require the delivery of products to customers to be considered as a separate focus. Because businesses that reach higher sales volumes thanks to E-commerce naturally want to reach faster logistics solutions like customers. Nowadays, as this situation requires the widespread use of digital logistics systems, it has enabled the leading companies in the sector to focus more on software solutions. Businesses achieve more satisfactory results by delivering faster to customers and increase their market share rapidly. Advantages such as the traceability provided by logistics information systems, the ability of all stakeholders to monitor transactions together on a single platform, access to information on how the product is transported and stored, and management can be seen as an updated form of logistics competitive advantage. In order to achieve these advantages, enterprises are moving their operational processes to the digital environment by accelerating with the pandemic today. For example, some companies store their products completely with robotic storage method and in case of an order, they make their deliveries with these robots. Robots do not only pack the product, store it in one place and deliver it, but also carry out all these processes by notifying the customer. Thus, most of the logistics flow takes place digitally without human contact. Delivery with drones can be given as an example of digitalization in logistics management. Undoubtedly, in the future, logistics flow will be handled by more robots than most of us expect, and businesses that cannot adapt to these processes will lose their market share.
