Logistics Strategies Create New Opportunities in Cross-Border E-Commerce

The continued growth of e-commerce and cross-border e-commerce in Türkiye is making logistics an increasingly strategic component of international business operations. With small parcels accounting for a significant share of shipments, effective logistics planning has become an important factor in the international competitiveness of e-exporters.

Industry assessments indicate that approximately 90% of cargo shipments in Türkiye consist of packages weighing between 0 and 5 kilograms. While this highlights the dominant role of small parcels in cross-border e-commerce, it also points to the need for new logistics solutions for heavier shipments and different product categories.

The sustainable growth of cross-border e-commerce depends not only on transportation costs but also on target-market characteristics, delivery times, warehousing infrastructure, customer expectations, and return management. In markets with high return rates, effective reverse logistics can create new opportunities by returning products to inventory, supporting resale, and enabling businesses to redirect returned products to alternative markets.

These developments demonstrate that logistics should be considered not merely as the final stage of an e-commerce operation, but as an integral part of market and sales strategy from the beginning. Digital inventory management, international warehousing, and efficient reverse logistics are emerging as key components of competitive and sustainable cross-border e-commerce operations.
