 Shortest Scheduled Flight: 90 Seconds

The world's shortest scheduled flight is operated by the Scottish regional airline Longair between the islands of Westray and Papa Westray in northern Scotland.

The world's shortest scheduled flight is operated by the Scottish regional airline Longair between the islands of Westray and Papa Westray in northern Scotland. The total distance between the airports on the two islands is 2.7 km (1.7 miles), and the flight takes only 90 seconds!

The flight distance is so short that a person can watch the plane take off from one island and land on the other. Moreover, these scheduled flights have been operating continuously since 1967. The flights, which are operated by a single pilot, use small Britten-Norman Islander aircraft with a capacity of 8 passengers.

Passengers are generally teachers and students wishing to visit the archaeological sites on Papa Westray, and healthcare workers providing medical services to the island. Some of the comments about this interesting flight on social media are:

“I was there before I even put on my seatbelt.”
“There are longer runways in the world than this flight.”
“The weather at our destination… is actually almost the same as here!”
"With the help of the wind, 59 seconds."
