Strong Increase in Foreign Trade
The strong increase in both exports and imports points to a significant expansion in Türkiye’s overall foreign trade volume. Foreign trade performance is closely monitored because of its direct relationship with economic growth, production, foreign currency revenues and the current account balance.
Changes in global demand, economic growth in Türkiye’s major export markets, energy and commodity prices, and fluctuations in exchange rates are expected to remain among the main factors shaping foreign trade performance in the coming period.
The sustainability of export growth also depends on more than the overall value of exports. The technological intensity and value-added structure of exported products are equally important. Increasing the share of medium- and high-technology products in exports, supporting research and development activities, and strengthening the international competitiveness of firms are critical issues for long-term economic growth.
