Türkiye’s Export Map Is Changing: Anatolian Cities Gain Strength in Foreign Trade

ürkiye’s export performance in 2026 shows that not only total foreign trade figures, but also the contribution of individual cities to the national economy is becoming increasingly important. According to the latest data announced by the Ministry of Trade, Türkiye’s exports increased by 8.1 percent in August 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching approximately USD 23.5 billion.

One of the most notable aspects of the data is the broader geographical distribution of export growth. In August, 35 provinces recorded double-digit increases in exports, indicating a strengthening trend toward regional diversification in Türkiye’s foreign trade structure.

Kocaeli and Bursa Stand Out

During the January–August 2026 period, Türkiye’s total exports increased by 4 percent to USD 185 billion. Over the same period, 56 provinces recorded export growth, while 25 provinces achieved exports exceeding USD 1 billion.

Istanbul maintained its leading position in terms of export volume, followed by Kocaeli, Izmir, Bursa, and Mersin. The strong performance of major industrial centers such as Kocaeli and Bursa once again highlighted the close relationship between production capacity and access to international markets.

Ankara recorded the highest increase in exports in absolute terms during the January–August period, followed by Kocaeli, Bursa, Mersin, and Yalova.
