Assoc. Prof. Başak Özarslan to Participate in the Critical Minerals and Nuclear Energy Panel


Assoc. Prof. Başak Özarslan, faculty member of the International Trade and Business Department at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) and Director of the Sustainable Environment and Society Application and Research Center (SCTUAM), will participate as a speaker in the international panel addressing the future of critical minerals and nuclear energy from a COP31 perspective.


The panel, titled “Critical Minerals and Nuclear Energy: Creating a Secure Energy Future,” will be held with the contribution of the Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Sustainable Environment and Society Application and Research Center (SCTUAM). The event will explore the relationship between the global energy transition, energy security, critical mineral supply chains, and low-carbon energy technologies from a multidimensional perspective.

The strategic importance of critical minerals required for the energy transition and the role of nuclear energy in the low-carbon energy transition will be discussed within the framework of COP31 targets and the global net-zero agenda.

Assoc. Prof. Başak Özarslan, faculty member of the IGU International Trade and Business Department and Director of SCTUAM, and Nuclear Energy Specialist Okan Yıldız will serve as speakers, while Asst. Prof. Can Burak Nalbantoğlu will moderate the panel.

The event will take place on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 13:00 to 15:00 at the ING Maslak Headquarters, B1 Conference Hall.

All interested participants are invited to attend the panel, where current developments regarding energy security, critical mineral supply chains, and the role of nuclear energy in the sustainable energy transition will be discussed.
