It has been reported that shipments coming from abroad to Turkey by fast cargo or mail are used as a new means of fraud.
The Ministry of Commerce stated that fraudsters demanded a deposit of money by sending an account number or website link with fake notifications such as ‘You have a shipment at customs.’, ‘Your shipment is stuck at customs.’, ‘Legal action will be taken against you because illegal substances have been detected in the content of your shipment.’, ‘Since your cargo cannot be delivered, an additional fee must be paid for delivery.’ by e-mail, phone call, message and the like. It was reported that official institutions do not notify and request payment in this way. It was added that the contact information of the cargo companies authorised by the Ministry and obliged to notify is available on the Ministry's website (click for the relevant list).
