During the seminar, the role of critical raw materials and minerals in the energy transition was addressed from a multidimensional perspective. It was emphasized that the green transition should not be evaluated solely through clean energy technologies, but also through the production processes and supply chains behind these technologies.
Assoc. Prof. Özarslan highlighted the significant impact of critical raw materials on global trade balances, industrial policies, and geopolitical relations, underlining that sustainability should be approached as a holistic concept encompassing the entire value chain rather than focusing only on final products.
The seminar also included key discussions on whether technologies can truly be considered sustainable if their production stages and supply chains are not sustainable. The event concluded with valuable academic and practical insights that contributed to increasing participants’ awareness of the political economy dimension of the energy transition.
We would like to thank the Maslak Rotary Club for their kind invitation and gracious hosting.
