 Inflation Increases Femicide!

Assoc. Dr. Gülgün ÇİĞDEM conducted an innovative study and conducted a multidisciplinary study, questioning whether there is a relationship between inflation and Femicide.

As a result of her empirical studies, she found that inflation and Femicide were cointegrated in the long run, that is, these variables were related in the long run. According to the analysis results of ÇİĞDEM, who is a faculty member and Head of the Department of International Trade and Business Administration at Istanbul Gelişim University, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, published in the Journal of Business, Economics and Finance (JBEF); 1 unit increase in inflation causes an increase of 0.95 units in femicides.

Pointing out that the fight against inflation is actually a choice, ÇİĞDEM said that it is very important for policy makers to know that not giving priority to efforts to fight inflation or implementing wrong policies will increase femicides. Otherwise, inflation will have dire economic and human consequences, in addition to inflation costs. This situation is of vital importance for society and public health.

Emphasizing that the biggest problem in her work is the supply of data, ÇİĞDEM was finally able to carry out her work by obtaining the data by applying to the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, a non-governmental organization. ÇİĞDEM pointed out the importance of keeping the data organized and sharing it with scientists, emphasizing that this is for the benefit of society.
