 New Paper by Asst. Prof. Derya Çelik: The Impact of the Hybrid Work Model on “Quiet Cracking” Examined


At the 7th International Congress of Social and Humanities Sciences (AICHSS), the impacts of the hybrid work model on employee experience and the emerging phenomenon of “quiet cracking” were discussed.


The study titled “The Impact of Hybrid Work Models on Employee Experience in Organizations: A Study on Quiet Cracking”, conducted by faculty members Asst. Prof. Derya Çelik and Dr. Ömer Samet Kazdal from our department, was presented to researchers within the scope of the congress.

The research examines, within the framework of Social Exchange Theory, how hybrid work arrangements shape employees’ attitudes and behaviors toward organizations. It conceptually discusses the effects of digital interactions and evolving work processes on employee experience.

The Phenomenon of “Quiet Cracking”

Quiet cracking is defined as a situation in which an employee remains physically present in the workplace but becomes psychologically and emotionally withdrawn from the organization. Researchers emphasize that this condition represents a critical risk area that may lead to productivity and talent loss for organizations.

Key Findings

Changing Experience: It is emphasized that the hybrid model transforms not only work practices but also factors such as commitment and motivation.

Managerial Risks: Poorly managed processes may weaken employees’ sense of organizational belonging.

Sustainability: Supporting a positive employee experience is highlighted as crucial for organizational sustainability.

Recommendations

In the conclusion of the study, several strategic recommendations are offered for managers, including regularly measuring employee experience, reducing digital fatigue, establishing a transparent trust-based environment, and increasing opportunities for social interaction.
