A Restoration Work Will Be Done in Hagia Sophia Mosque

Announcing that the Hagia Sophia Mosque will be restored at the press conference he held at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) to evaluate the tourism data for the first half of the year, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy gave information about the restoration works. Expressing that a scientific committee was established by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the General Directorate of Foundations, Ersoy said that the concrete mortars on the exterior will be cleaned after the strengthening works of the building against earthquakes. Ersoy stated that the lead coatings on the domes will be removed and the cracks that cause the flow of rain and snow water will be repaired, and that the lead coating will also be repaired and installed. Ersoy also informed that the minarets in the mosque will be dismantled and relocated after the repair works. Ersoy announced that Hagia Sophia Mosque will be open to visitors and worship during the restoration works.
