Erasmus Experience at İstanbul Gelişim University
Khrystyna Slyunchenko came to Turkey to study in English Language and Literature Programme at our university via Erasmus+ Programme.
Khrystyna Slyunchenko came to Turkey to study in English Language and Literature Programme at our university via Erasmus+ Programme. She studied for one semester (spring) in the programme and wrote a brief essay about her experiences in Turkey and at our university. The highlights from her essay are as follows:
“I was fortunate enough to participate in Erasmus+ Programme and to have become aware of a new culture. Turkey is a beautiful country with incredible sightseeing and very delicious cuisine.
“The first thing I would like to mention is people. I am so grateful to my group at İstanbul Gelişim University because they were so nice to me and showed me Turkish culture. This made me feel comfortable and definitely made me feel as though I was part of their lives. […] I can admit that people in this country are very kind and open-hearted. I remember one situation in a bus, when my money on the card finished and I asked a girl to pay for me by her card and in return I wanted to pay her back some paper money, but she did not take the money. Even though people in Turkey have their own way of living, I can confess that it does not matter if you believe in the same religion or not, or if you have a different culture or the same, all people are equal.”
“The second thing is education. I need to say that I learned a lot of things from the courses I took here. Since in Poland my courses were based more on translation, here I had an opportunity to read a lot of interesting novels as well as find out about the culture of other countries.”
“To sum it up, I am very happy with the amount of the things I have learned and experienced. To be honest, it was my dream to go to İstanbul and I do not regret that.”
Khrystyna completed her education via Erasmus+ Programme at our university and went back to Poland.
