New Publication in Sustainable Futures: The Relationship Between Renewable Energy, Geopolitical Risk, and Industrial Productivity in Türkiye

The study, co-authored by our department's faculty member, Assoc. Prof. Ayşe Meriç Yazıcı, has been published in the internationally peer-reviewed journal Sustainable Futures (SCOPUS Q1).

The study examined the relationships between renewable energy use, geopolitical risk, and industrial productivity in Türkiye using monthly data from January 2001 to September 2021. The results of Quantile-on-Quantile Regression (QQR) and Granger Causality-Quantile Tests indicate that the relationship between these variables is asymmetric and non-linear.

🔎 Key findings of the study:
  • The impact of renewable energy on industrial productivity varies across different productivity levels.
  • Geopolitical risk has a negative impact at low and moderate levels, while contributing positively at certain intervals. However, under extreme risk conditions, it strongly negatively impacts industrial productivity.
  • There is a bidirectional causal relationship between renewable energy, geopolitical risk, and industrial productivity.

📌 The study emphasizes that Türkiye's clean energy transition and geopolitical stability are critical to the resilience of its industrial sector and sustainable development goals.
