 Scientific Traces of Socio-Emotional Wealth in Family Businesses


A bibliometric study co-authored by Asst. Prof. Derya Çelik has been published in early view (ISTANBUL, November 5, 2025)


The article, "Socio-Emotional Wealth in Family Businesses: A Bibliometric Analysis," co-authored by Asst. Prof. Derya Çelik (Istanbul Gelişim University), was published in early view in issue 27(2) of the Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Journal (KOCATEPEİİBFD), which appears in TR Index. The study systematically maps academic production at the intersection of socio-emotional wealth (SEW) and family businesses between 2007 and 2025, providing a comprehensive perspective on the past, present, and future of the field and guiding analyses for researchers.
 
Main Findings
 
• The first publication in this field was published in 2007. By 2025, the total number of publications had reached 176, and these publications had received a total of 13,651 citations. 2024 was the most productive year in this field, with 25 publications.
• The Journal of Management Studies stood out in terms of citation and link strength; Canada and the United States were the countries, and Arizona State University and the University of Alberta were the institutions.
• Luis Gomez-Mejia and David L. Deephouse were the central figures in the literature, while collaboration networks were found to be concentrated around a limited number of clusters.
• The strongest keywords were "socioemotional wealth," "performance," and "ownership," with an evolution over time towards the themes of entrepreneurship, behavioral agency, and strategic governance.
• The dataset was generated through WoS title scanning, and analyses used Python-based tools supported by VOSviewer 1.6.6 and OpenAI ChatGPT.
 
About the Researchers
 
Asst. Prof. Derya Çelik, serves as the Deputy Head of the Department of International Trade and Business (ENG) at Istanbul Gelişim University's Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on technology and innovation management, sustainability, and strategic management.
 
Dr. Ömer Samet Kazdal is an independent researcher who conducts his research independently of any institution. His research focuses on family businesses, sustainability, and strategic management.
