Composite leading indicators have been used for more than 50 years to provide a solid basis for economic forecasts by estimating fluctuations within economies. Historically, the index has been pioneered by organizations such as the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In 2002, the CBRT developed the Composite Leading Indicators Index for the Turkish economy (MBONCU-SUE) in collaboration with the OECD.
The CBRT's Composite Leading Indicators Index (MBONCU-SUE), which allows users to obtain information on increases and decreases in economic activity, is constructed from early-responding series among economic indicators and can react to rapid changes in economic activity, take expectations into account, and take monetary policy and external factors into account. The index can be monitored on the CBRT's Electronic Data Dissemination System (EDDS) as well as on the OECD website for country comparisons.
