The article titled “The Importance of Attitudes Toward Personal Data Privacy and Security for Digital Banking Usage in Türkiye,” authored by Research Assistant Gökhan ÖZBİLGE from the Department of International Trade and Finance, has been published in the Doguş University Journal.

The aim of this study is to classify and examine the effects of individuals’ attitudes toward personal data privacy and security, as well as their socioeconomic conditions, on digital banking usage in Türkiye within the framework of Communication Privacy Management Theory. The empirical findings of the study are based on the Household Information Technology Usage Survey Micro Data Set provided by TurkStat for the years 2021 and 2023 and on analyses conducted using the C5.0 decision tree algorithm. The empirical findings highlight the effects of gender, education, and the pressure to digitalize created by pandemic conditions on the decision to use digital banking. According to the Communication Privacy Management Theory, these factors indicate that individuals' use of digital banking may be dependent on privacy boundaries, privacy rules, and collective coordination patterns. In light of the findings as a whole, policymakers focusing on digital banking usage preferences are advised to implement targeted and sustainable applications that can contribute to both eliminating gender and educational gaps and ensuring a more transparent understanding of procedures related to the privacy and security of personal data, such as digital financial literacy education.
