 Alternative route for global trade


For the finished goods produced in Europe, since the route through Ukraine is no longer in use, these goods first reach Central Asia and then Russia.


After the container shortage in the logistics sector started to decrease, Russia's invasion of Ukraine may cause serious problems in the supply chain. Considering Turkiye's position in terms of these supply chain problems, the advantage we have comes to the fore.
For finished goods produced in Europe, the route through Ukraine is no longer in use, so these goods first reach Central Asia and then Russia. In the report prepared by the logisticians and submitted to the ministry so that Turkey's position can be used more actively in order to overcome this situation; Recommendations were made to take the necessary initiatives to strengthen the infrastructure of the functioning gate and to remove the obstacles in front of alternative routes. A study was started some time ago in order to speed up the freight transport between Asia and Europe by passing through Turkiye.
The city of Ahılkelek in Georgia is an intersection point for trains coming from both continents, as the track gauge is 1520 mm in countries such as Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan on the BTK railway line route, while it is 1435 mm in Europe and Turkey. A new line is being built between Kars Logistics Center and Ahılkelek, where it reaches.
