 Rail Transport Rising

“It was reported by Hasan Pezük, General Manager of TCDD Tasimacilik AS, that a total of 38.2 million tons of cargo was transported in 2021 in direct proportion to the increasing demand for the railway. In addition, Hasan Pezük added that Turkey has become the center country in transit railway transportation with the transportations made via BTK and Marmaray.”

Stating that TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ carries out railway transportation in a wide hinterland thanks to the 166 years of knowledge and experience of the Turkish railway, Hasan Pezük emphasized that by carrying approximately 91 thousand tons of cargo with 181 freight trains per day, the highest quality service is provided to customers in a sustainable way, from road transport to railroad. He stated that there is a significant increase in both domestic and international transportation.

Pezük said, “With the right cooperation and planning made by our General Directorate to meet the increasing domestic and international cargo demands, this figure reached 33.2 million tons in 2021, while carrying a total of 29.9 million tons of cargo in 2020. Our international freight shipments increased by 24 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year and amounted to 4.3 million. When the 5 million tons of freight transport carried out by the other two Railway Train Operators (DTİ) is added, the total railway freight transportation reached 38.2 million tons in 2021.
In addition to these, Hasan Pezük stated that all points where bulky cargo is transported, such as Organized Industrial Zones with high transport potential, ports and large industrial establishments, are directly connected by junction lines.
