Transorient Adds Portugal to Its Intermodal Routes

Transorient, a company providing intermodal transportation solutions, offers three different options for the European market: direct railway, Ro-Ro + railway, and short sea shipping. The company, which created a strong intermodal corridor between Europe and Turkey by joining forces with the Belgian company ECS (European Container Services) in 2015, continues to strengthen its service network with new destinations. Transorient Intermodal Team Leader Emel Uzunoğlu stated that they offer door-to-door intermodal transportation services to 12 different countries in Europe by connecting the initial and final transportation with road transport. They use direct railway or Ro-Ro + railway options for entry and exit to Turkey. With the annual contracts they have with all the operators that connect Turkey to Europe, they can provide very advantageous freight rates. Uzunoğlu also mentioned that they have partnered with ECS, a market leader in distribution with over 1,000 daily deliveries in 2015, and they often offer attractive import freight rates from different regions due to the high volume.

Emel Uzunoğlu noted that intermodal transportation solutions account for 40% of their total shipments. She said they increase their market share regularly and the most important issue for them in intermodal transportation is to achieve planned transit times and ensure that materials are shipped on time and without any problems. They aim to increase the use of this transportation mode, which provides low carbon emissions, both in companies and in the country, while contributing to environmental protection.

Emel Uzunoğlu said that they have a wide customer base in their shipments and that they transport all products except some special, perishable, and flammable goods to 12 countries in Europe with transit times of 6-12 days. Especially for product groups where price competition is high, they provide significant advantages, contributing to both their customers' and the country's export figures. Textile transportation, in which they have been specialized for the last 20 years, is a highly sensitive area where supply chain processes should be structured accordingly. They provide services for textile exporters in their special warehouse for textile transportation, where both hanging and boxed textile operations are carried out. At the same time, their quality control experts perform the final checks of textile products in the warehouse.

In addition to its door-to-door intermodal transportation services, Transorient recently added a new line, Portugal, and is conducting feasibility studies with its partner ECS to establish a terminal. Uzunoğlu said they aim to close 2022 with 30% growth.
