As Internet-mediated communication has commenced to have impact in our daily life, New Media studies have correspondingly gained importance in the academic environment. Since universities have begun to focus on New Media studies, it is necessary to re-evaluate numerous concepts once again. As technology and the internet unitedly shape the understanding of new media and its concepts, multidisciplinary perspectives may provide prospects and understanding on the future as well as changing our daily life in social science perspective.
Today, by emergence of new media tools or platforms, our point of view about media and its effects on societies should take those numerous perspectives into account. In this context, some media and communication theories should be revisited. In this regards, it is hard to follow new studies and provide valid theories and researches in this sphere in permanent way. The pace of development in the internet-based media and the multidisciplinary approaches to new media studies make the field much more complex and sophisticated. As new media changes, the boundaries of new media should be extended in a way to include an understanding regarding cultural values, economies, politics and interactions among individuals.
Istanbul Gelisim University New Media and Communication Department aims to educate students with an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to follow the current developments on the national and international platform and to carry out digital transformation.
