The New Media and Communication Department, which operates under the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at Istanbul Gelişim University, organized a comprehensive orientation program for the new students of the 2025–2026 academic year.
The event was attended by Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taylan Maral, Vice Chair Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Büyükbingöl, Asst. Prof. Dr. Eren Efe, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sinav, Research Asst. Dr. Emre Yüksel, and Research Asst. Dilek Erol. In addition, alumna Aslı Karabulut joined the program and shared her experiences with the students.
In the first part of the program, the curriculum was introduced. Students were informed not only about the compulsory courses but also about a variety of elective courses tailored to different interests. From digital media technologies to communication theories, from film studies to digital marketing, the wide range of courses offered was highlighted as a significant contribution to students’ professional development.
Among the academic opportunities presented, the double major and minor programs stood out. The department announced that students who meet the success criteria could pursue education in a second department and graduate with a double diploma.
Moreover, it was emphasized that students also have the opportunity to study abroad through the Erasmus program, with a reminder of the importance of meeting language proficiency requirements and application conditions.
Another part of the orientation introduced the overall structure of the faculty and university. Students were briefed about the library, research centers, career center, and advisory services. Social opportunities provided by the university—such as sports facilities, art events, and social spaces enriching student life—were also presented.
During the event, the department’s social media accounts were introduced, encouraging students to follow announcements and participate more actively in department events. The importance of joining student clubs at the university was also underlined, as they provide opportunities for both social and professional development.
The orientation program became an important step in helping New Media and Communication Department students adapt quickly to both academic and social life.
