One of our research assistants, Deniz Mısra Gürol's article titled “The psychology and policy of overcoming inequality” is published in the journal of Behavioral and Brain Sciences.

In this study, individuals with certain behaviors and strategies, known as "positive deviants", who have access to the same resources as other people in the society and face similar or worse challenges, but find better solutions to these problems than their peers were observed. In this research, people who grew up in economically difficult conditions but then overcame these difficulties and increased economic mobility were studied. Although interest and investment in intervention programs to reduce and alleviate economic inequality have increased, policies have so far been inadequate. Policies should target the behavior of individuals facing both systemic barriers and social and economic challenges, perhaps by looking at the choices of their peers who have overcome economic inequality. In the face of the problems that arise, it is necessary to make systemic and real investments for people rather than just making financial investments. It is important that the policies to be created have both an environmental and a psychological base, such approaches will directly affect the welfare of individuals and societies.
