The importance of having routines
Having routines has a much more important place in our lives than we think. Routines are effective in coping with stress and they also reduce general anxiety levels, regulate sleep and increase general well-being. Especially for individuals who have difficulty coping with uncertainty, having a routine reduces overthinking about what to do throughout the day and allows us to have more control over our own lives.
A routine might include things like journaling, meditating for 10 minutes, exercising, or a to-do list. In addition, you can note 2-3 situations during the day that you are grateful for, spend time with your hobbies, or spend time with people who are good for you, with your pet, or in environments that make you feel good.
There is no need to suddenly add many of the routines mentioned above to your routine. You can start wherever and however you feel comfortable and aim to add new healthy habits over time. If you don't follow your established routine perfectly, this is normal and expected.
