Career Roadmap After Graduation for Psychology Students

The event “The Psychologist’s Roadmap: Graduation and Beyond” aimed to help psychology students better understand the academic and professional processes they may encounter after graduation. Dr. Lecturer Selcen Yetkin Özden, along with Research Assistants Zehra Nur Kurtoğlu, Simay Yılmaz, and İrem Uyar, participated as speakers.

The speakers discussed various career paths that psychology graduates could explore, detailing options such as pursuing an academic career, specializing in clinical psychology, exploring lesser-known fields of expertise, and working in applied settings. They provided valuable insights into the application processes for master's and doctoral programs, emphasizing key points that candidates should consider.

Throughout the event, guidance was offered on professional development after graduation. Topics such as working with clients, the importance of supervision, ethical principles, and professional competencies were discussed to raise awareness of potential challenges students might face in their professional lives. Additionally, the importance of in-service training and certification programs was highlighted, and suggestions were offered on how psychology graduates can navigate their career journeys more consciously.

Participants had the opportunity to gain crucial information for their career planning by benefiting from the experiences of academics and research assistants. To ensure psychology students step into their professional lives more equipped, similar events will continue in the future.
