What is Compulsive Buying Behavior?
Compulsive buying behavior is a form of shopping that puts the person in financial trouble by not being able to control this desire when he/she has a desire to buy 2, 15. We can say that the mental state of the person also affects this behavior, as well as the feeling of well-being in his social environment. Even if the person feels regret after shopping, he continues to maintain this behavior in order to feel better and to provide self-confidence 2, 16.
Kuzma and Black (2006) mention that self-help behavior is very important. They stated that they could not rely on a drug for compulsive buying behaviors of individuals and instead suggested a 4-step approach in order to break these habits on their own 13.
4 steps to control compulsive spending
1-Acknowledge that you are a compulsive buyer.
2-Getting rid of checkbooks by cutting credit cards.
3-Shopping with a friend or relative will cause you to limit your spending along with the feeling of shame.
4-Try to find meaningful ways to spend your time other than shopping 13, 26.
