 “Decision Fatigue Syndrome”

Decision fatigue is the deterioration of a person's decision-making process and behavioral ability to control this process.

“Decision Fatigue Syndrome”
For years, psychologists have investigated how people make decisions and how components such as perceptions, thoughts, and emotions are effective throughout this process. Decision making is an action that a person performs consciously, in which long-term memory is generally active. Decision fatigue is the deterioration of a person's decision-making process and behavioral ability to control this process. Just as when a person exerts a lot of physical effort, fatigue occurs in their muscles, when they spend too much cognitive time on decision-making, they may deplete their internal resources, that is, they may experience ego depletion. Especially those working in the healthcare field (doctors, nurses, psychologists) are faced with many decision-making situations every day, and since these decisions affect the patient's life, they create high risks and can cause stress. Experiencing indecision a lot, the pressure of having to make decisions, and thus depletion of one's internal resources can lead to burnout syndrome. If a person's energy is completely depleted with burnout, he or she may become psychologically and physiologically vulnerable to many diseases. In summary; people who experience decision fatigue in their professional lives may experience both mental and physical burnout, which may reduce their functionality in both their private and professional lives.
