Message from Chair of The Department

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF PUBLIC RELATIONS AND PUBLICITY DEPARTMENT

Hello, Dear Young People,

Welcome to our department and to an era where communication is at the very center of life and everything.

I have a request for you. Please take a look at the smartphones in your hands and the computers on your desks right now. With a single touch, you can reach your friends, social media accounts, websites, brands, companies, politicians, celebrities, institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and much more. Isn’t that right? And they can reach you, too. Some want to introduce themselves, their brand, their party, their company, or their institution to make it more known and desirable; some want to achieve high impact on the path to their goals; while others claim, "I have the solution to the problems." While all this is happening, competition is inevitably increasing day by day. On the other hand, communication channels such as television, newspapers, radio, magazines, and outdoor advertising are still effective and continue to surround us from outside the internet environment. This means we are living in an age where communication is at the center of everything, where we are the focal point, and where we are surrounded by communication.

In this environment, the way for many elements—from the people we reach to public and private institutions, parties, and many NGOs—to stand out among their peers, to differentiate and position themselves, and ultimately to come within "a touch's distance" and be instantly recalled, actually passes through a communication design and strategy, and communication management. This is where Public Relations appears before us as the name of communication management in the modern world.

Whether at a local, regional, national, or global level, the promotion, branding, and acquisition of a lasting image and reputable identity for the aforementioned elements are the other strategic dimensions of public relations work. Of course, there are many aspects of these developments, positive or negative, to be discussed. But the truth is this: communication has now become like oxygen for society, the individuals forming it, and institutions alike. This is currently a universal reality.

The Good News…

We are in such an era that everyone has a professional need for communication and communication professionals at many levels. This means that if you are going to make a choice in the field of social sciences, the path for Public Relations and Publicity departments is wide open. Moreover, our department offers many courses related to advertising; because the marketing communication aspect of public relations also encompasses advertising. In this context, the opportunities in the Public Relations and Publicity department are vast.

For example, just as you have the opportunity to work in relevant positions within corporate communication, brand, media relations, marketing, marketing communications, and similar departments of many public and private institutions; it is also possible to work in the agency system that supports these departments in terms of professional communication practices, events, campaigns, competitive communication strategies, and similar elements. You may even have options in the future to switch from your current position to the agency side or the corporate side—the other side of the table—or to other positions. This implies a possibility for expansion and a career opportunity in the future.

In this direction, as a department, we aim for our graduates to become individuals who can design and implement campaigns to establish correct and effective communication with all stakeholders and target audiences of institutions and organizations, develop strategies, create the communication language of the institution they represent, correctly position communication with the target audience, have developed analytical thinking skills, and solve problems quickly and rationally. While offering our students the opportunity to practice what they have learned through campaigns in applied courses alongside theoretical lessons to develop these skills, we also ensure they take photos and shoot short films for their campaigns, design advertisements, and produce content.

There is much more to talk about, but this is the gist of it. We are in a new era. Communication is at the center of life; it is as valuable as oxygen for everyone. Wouldn't becoming a communication management (public relations) professional or a marketing communications manager—needed by everyone from individuals to the public and private sectors to NGOs—open doors for you in such an environment?

Now…

Our department awaits you with an educational approach that supports your personal development aspects alongside the curriculum, conferences attended by important professionals from various sectors and national/global brands, projects, workshops, and certified trainings, always aiming for the better.

Are you ready for the journey?
