 Dr. Emre Ahmet Seçmen Met with Our Students in a Talk titled “Cinema of Digital”


Under the moderation of Esra Tunçay, a PhD faculty member from the Public Relations and Publicity Department of Istanbul Gelişim University, an interview titled "Digitalin Cinema" was held with Emre Ahmet Seçmen, a PhD faculty member from Beykoz University.


The talk titled "Digitalin Cinema", moderated by Esra Tunçay, PhD, from the Public Relations and Publicity Department, was held on Monday, January 4, 2021, between 14:30-15:45. Emre Ahmet Seçmen, PhD, from Beykoz University Radio, Television and Cinema Department, was the guest and met with our university students. In the conversation, it was discussed how the phenomenon of digitalization had an effect on cinema.
 
Voter started the conversation by stating that filmmaking consists of four basic stages: pre-production (pre-production), production (production), post-production (post-production), distribution, marketing and screening. He stated that with digitalization, the post-production phase has taken on a more collective form.
By mentioning the structure of the cameras used in filming in the historical process, Seçen conveyed the technological developments in the history of cinema chronologically; summarized the process of transition to digitalization. Then, referring to the documentary "Side By Side"; Based on the documentary in question, he conveyed about the digitalization in the world of cinema.
 
He said that the digital revolution brought about a transformation for film producers and film viewers, depending on the technological developments that shape film production. Emphasizing that film producers have different perspectives on the digital technology used, Seçmen said that these perspectives are divided into three groups: those who support digital technology, those who oppose digital technology, and those who have a dilemma or distance from digital technology.
 
In his book titled "Cinema of Digital: The Transformation of Design and Content" (2020), Seçen has conducted research on the transformation that occurs with the use of digital design in filmmaking, and in the interview, he examined the phenomenon of digitalization in cinema through the example of the movie series "Star Wars". Seçmen, who also compared analog design and digital design, also made statements about pre-digital design in cinema. The conversation ended with Tunçay thanking Seçen.
