 Head of Department talked about Public Relations and Publicity Department at Online Promotion Days


In the live broadcast of Istanbul Gelişim University Online Promotion Days dated 18.06.2020, under the moderation of Professor Kürşat Yalçıner, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Associate Professor Şükran Güzin Ilıcak Aydınalp, Head of Public Relations and Publicity Department, made transfers about our department.


Aydınalp started primarily from his academic career; He also stated that as one of our students who are in the university preference period, he once went through the same process.
 
Emphasizing that the field of communication is very enjoyable and very developing, Aydınalp underlined that academic staff should be taken into consideration when choosing a university. He added that the contribution of the teachers is decisive on the students.
 
Yalciner; stated that "public relations", which is a rising trend today, is a necessary training field in order to establish correct relations with individuals and institutions; He supported Aydınalp by emphasizing that the experts should also be well-trained.
 
Aydınalp said that human beings, who are social beings, have been communicating since the early ages, and that public relations came to us professionally after names such as Edward Bernays and Ivy Lee. He stated that today, public relations encompasses many areas such as social responsibility projects and museum communication. Yalçıner also stated that the current promotional activity is a public relations activity.
 
Aydınalp, in our department, which started its academic life in the 2013-2014 academic year; Emphasizing that it has a large student potential, that it has a solid academic staff, and that it is one of the few accredited Public Relations and Publicity departments in Turkey, he gave information about our various departments to our students who are in the university preference period.
 
Regarding the difference of our department from the Public Relations and Publicity departments of other universities, Aydınap; “There are 33 Public Relations and Promotion departments in Turkey. We differed from these departments in focusing on 'Corporate Communication'. Since the 2000s, many brands have institutionalized in order to differentiate themselves from their competitors. Institutionalization started with adding departments. A corporate communication department has now been added to departments such as marketing and R&D. If there is an institutionalization in every conceivable sector, there must be a corporate communication department. We train corporate communication-oriented students for this department.”
 
Stating that in education, not only knowledge and reason, but also elements such as aesthetic and spiritual development should be prioritized, as Plato stated, Aydınalp said that in addition to our department courses, "World History", "Literary History", "History of Art" are in question. the increase in intellectual accumulation is ensured; He said that this way, students could look at things differently and put forward better projects.
 
Aydınalp; Our students who graduated from the Department of Public Relations and Publicity have the titles of public relations specialist, corporate communication specialist, communication consultant; they can work in public relations agents, media agencies, image management agencies, corporate communication departments, municipalities and many areas related to communication; He stated that there are a lot of job opportunities.
 
Aydınalp stated that in addition to theory in education, practices in education are very important for our department, and that they train students who can express themselves through student-oriented education.
 
Adding that we have projects on the pages of our website as a department, Aydınalp stated that it would be beneficial for people who are open to communication, self-confident, who can love communication areas, who are interested in mass media, and who want to realize important missions such as promoting a brand and a country, to choose this section.
