 Legendary Discounts: Fatigue and Anxiety Increase as Prices Decrease


According to the results of the research conducted on consumers about online shopping campaigns organized under various titles such as Legendary Friday or Wonderful Friday, it was determined that consumers shop for fear of missing out, which causes fatigue and anxiety.


In recent years, online shopping campaigns organized under various titles such as "Legendary Friday, Wonderful Friday" at certain times of the year have started to become very popular. People have been waiting for this time of the year to buy products that are discounted or seem to be discounted, even if they don't need it. Another study was conducted on the effects of these special discounts, which cause many debates in sociological terms, on consumers. According to the results of the research conducted with consumers over the age of 18 who live in Turkey and shop online, it was determined that consumers shop with the urge of "fear of missing out", which causes fatigue and anxiety.

Istanbul Gelisim University Department of Management Information Systems Dr. Instructor Member Hande Ayhan Gökcek made evaluations about the research on "Impulsive Use in Online Shopping, Fear of missing, Impulsive Buying, Examination of the Relationships between Internet-Related Fatigue and Anxiety" stating that they recently conducted such a study to investigate the negative consequences of internet users' fear of missing, Dr. Instructor Member Hande Ayhan Gökcek said that the fear of missing causes buying behavior in people. Hande Ayhan Gökcek said, “It is seen that buying online with the fear of missing has a significant and positive effect on internet-induced fatigue and anxiety.”
