Burak Tenekeci and Melike Güzel, students of Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences (İİSBF) Department of Public Relations and Publicity, prepared a brochure to raise awareness about the violence against women, which has increased recently.

Tenekeci and Güzel distributed brochures they prepared by interviewing people on the street in order to raise awareness of the crisis that has arisen due to the social, psychological or physical violence of women in many parts of the world and in our country, and the increase in femicide.

Emphasizing the need not to remain silent in the face of domestic violence in Turkey, Tenekeci and Güzel revealed that everyone should be sensitive about this issue. Stating that they received generally positive reactions throughout the interview, the students stated that they received reactions supporting violence against women.

According to the data shared at the Violence Against Women Monitoring Committee meeting, 304 women were killed in 2016, 353 women in 2017, 280 women in 2018, and a total of 299 women in 2019. It was announced that 72.8 percent of these murders were committed at home, and 95 percent of the perpetrators were spouses, partners or relatives. These data reveal the dimensions of violence against women.
