 The Importance Of Innovation Is Increasing In Marketing And Public Relations


Within the scope of the event organized by Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Thomas Russell GILLPATRICK held an interview with the students of the Department of Public Relations and Publicity on Friday, 06.04.2018 at the Tashkent Conference Hall.


Gillpatrick, a marketing professor, conveyed his knowledge and experience in this field to our university faculty members and students. Gillpatrick explained the importance of innovation in Public Relations and Marketing with current examples. Gillpatrick says, “As a concept, innovation refers to both a process and a result. Innovation can be focused on solving problems and finding solutions to existing problems that bother us. Innovation is not an invention. Rather, it is a product that exists today, taking service and adding new effective features to the product and putting it at the service of humanity again. The important thing at this stage is that the new feature that has changed is active. It adds a unique feature.” Giving examples of different types of innovation such as product innovation, process innovation, and social innovation, he emphasized that innovation is highly necessary in the marketing and public relations strategies of institutions. He stated that changing customer demands with developing technology and globalization trigger innovation. However, he underlined that crises are an opportunity for innovation and stated that marketing innovation has a critical importance for the success of institutions. He explained how big brands such as Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook, etc. were successful, and with which marketing, innovation and communication techniques they came to this day by giving examples.
 
Gillpatrick said that Turkey has a very young population and that this human resource can take the country to different points with its innovation ideas. At the same time, Gillpatrick said, “Even though it is a new university, I was very impressed with the development and growth of the University in such a short time.” said. In the interview, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, Gillpatrick told the students that they could visit him at his university in the United States.
 
Gillpatrick answered the students' questions at the end of the interview. A plaque of appreciation was presented to Gillpatrick by Sarp Bağcan, a PhD lecturer in the Public Relations and Publicity Department on behalf of Istanbul Gelişim University.
