Academic Analysis on the “Başka Sinema Audience”

Istanbul Gelisim University’s Department of Radio, Television and Cinema hosted a significant academic event focusing on cinema audience culture. Titled “A Field Study on the Başka Sinema Audience: Analysis of Audience Experience,” the event explored alternative film-viewing practices and audience behaviors.

Held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 12:00 PM in Classroom 505, the event attracted a large number of participants. The program, which provided an academic discussion environment, was moderated by Asst Prof. Selda Tunç Subaşı, while Asst Prof. Bilge İpek participated as the keynote speaker.

The event particularly examined the preferences, motivations, and approaches to cinema experience of the “Başka Sinema” audience within the framework of a detailed field study. Discussions focused on the role of alternative distribution and exhibition networks in Turkey, how audiences seek experiences different from mainstream cinema, and the cultural impacts of these experiences.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, transforming into an interactive discussion platform that allowed students and academics to share their views on the subject.
