"An Current Look at Short Film - What Do Short Filmmakers Do and How Do They Do?" Event Realized.


      Within the scope of the Short Film Production lecture given by Doctor Özgür Evren Arık, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences Faculty of Radio, Television and Cinema Department, "An Current Look at Short Film - What Do Short Filmmakers Do?" The interview was held. Short film director Benhür Bolhava, documentary and short film director Zeynep Altay and research assistant of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema; Erdem Türkavcı, who is also a short film director, attended.
     Benhür Bolhava, who competed in many national and international festivals with his fictional short film Finish (2018) and won the jury special award at the 14th Boston Turkish Documentary and Short Film Competition, said that all the conditions must be appropriate in terms of material and technical terms in order to be a good director for a film. He emphasized. Stating that cinema students can be interested not only in directing but also in different professions related to cinema such as production, Bolhava stated that the sector needs good producers and stated that the distribution strategies of the producer are of great importance in the journey of the film. Zeynep Altay, who directed documentaries such as Kıllıt (2016) and Naatra (2017) competing in many national and international festivals and won the third prize in the national student films category with Naatra at the 10th TRT Documentary Film Awards, is a short, medium or feature film. He stated that his story determined that he would not be. Speaking about his future projects in the interview, Altay stated that he was not in a hurry to shoot a new movie and paid attention to the main idea in his film's story. Erdem Türkavcı, who competed in many national and international festivals such as VGIK, Altın Koza and Istanbul International Film Festival with his fictional short film Özne (2019) with the documentary named 910.000 (2015), emphasized the importance of having equipment in different fields in the interview. Türkavcı emphasized that cinema students should not only watch many movies but also read genres such as novels, stories and tragedy; He stated that in order to write and direct a good film regardless of short, medium or feature length, it is necessary to have knowledge in fields such as semiotics, dramaturgy, representation, discourse analysis, gender and identity. The conversation ended after a question and answer session between the participants and the short film directors.
