The Department of Sociology hosted the event titled “Food of Unity and Food of Division: The Food Language of Social Identity and Political Choice,” which took place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at K Block Fırnasta, featuring Sofia Rassadina as the speaker.
In her talk, Rassadina emphasized that food is not merely a nutritional necessity but plays a significant role in shaping social belonging, expressing identities, and influencing political choices. She explained, with various examples, how food creates a language of communication across a wide spectrum ranging from cultural rituals to political campaigns, from migration experiences to everyday dining practices.
