On April 15, 2026, the event titled “Is Türkiye Ready for the Challenges of Aging?” was successfully held through the collaboration of the Department of Sociology and the Sociology Club at Istanbul Gelisim University. Organized with the contributions of the Social Responsibility Application and Research Center (SSUAM) and the Yordam Education, Research and Development Foundation, the event addressed the phenomenon of aging from multiple perspectives.
As part of the program, Asst. Prof. Teoman Aktan, Member of the Board of Directors of the Yordam Foundation, delivered a presentation titled “Elderly Rights in International Legislation”; Specialist Social Worker Suzan Oktay presented “Human Rights and Aging”; Asst. Prof. Raheb Mohammadi Ghanbarlou discussed “Sociological Dimensions of Aging”; and Asst. Prof. Nazar Bal presented “The Invisibility of Aging and the Care Crisis: A Film Analysis.”
During the event, it was emphasized that aging is not only an individual experience but also a social issue. Important evaluations were shared regarding social policies, rights-based approaches, and care services for Türkiye's aging population. The program, which attracted significant interest from participants, concluded with a question-and-answer session.
