 2022 UNESCO Candidate Iznik

Bursa Iznik was chosen this year for the permanent candidacy of UNESCO World Heritage in 2022. The file regarding the Iznik district selected by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has been sent.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism sent the file about the Iznik district of Bursa from Turkey to UNESCO for the permanent candidacy of UNESCO World Heritage in 2022 "to be discussed and decided at the 2024 conference". Thus, the countdown has begun for Bursa's UNESCO adventure, which started in 2014 with the Hanlar Region, sultan's complexes and Cumalıkızık, for Iznik to be added to the 'Cities Network and Learning Cities Global Network' membership.

Bursa was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List with the Khans Area, sultan's complexes and Cumalıkızık in 2014, thus an important step was taken for the promotion of the city in the international arena. Not satisfied with this, the Metropolitan Municipality, which turned the city into an open-air museum with 'restorations', also took an important step in the promotion of intangible cultural values. In line with the work done, Bursa, which managed to be included in the UNESCO Cities Network last year in the field of craft and folk arts, where tile and Bursa silk are at the forefront, later became a member of the UNESCO Learning Cities Global Network.
