The 50th anniversary of the death of Âşık Veysel, one of the powerful representatives of the "Aşıklık Tradition", which made the minstrel tradition popular throughout the country and was registered in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Representative List in 2009, was included in the UNESCO Anniversary of Commemoration and Celebration Program. Subsequently, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a circular regarding the celebration of 2023 as the "Year of Âşık Veysel". In the circular published in the Official Journal, President Erdoğan said, "Events will be held throughout the year, throughout the country and abroad, to commemorate Âşık Veysel, who addressed humanity with his instrument and word from the world's window, with respect and mercy."
On this occasion, as IGU Turkish Language and Literature Department, we commemorate our great folk poet Âşık Veysel with respect and mercy on the 50th anniversary of his reunion with the faithful half-black soil.
