Launched in 1955 by Makbule Abasıyanık, the mother of Sait Faik Abasıyanık, one of the most powerful writers of Turkish literature, in memory of the author, the "Sait Faik Story Award" has been continued by the Darüşşafaka Association since 1964. After Sait Faik's death, Makbule Hanım left most of her assets and the copyright of the author's works to the Darüşşafaka Association in the will she prepared on November 8, 1954. In one of the articles of the will, a jury consisting of prominent literary masters of the period chooses the best story written in that year and asks that it be given the "Sait Faik and Makbule Abasıyanık Story Award". The first award was given in 1955 and has been continued in this way until today.
In the competition organized for the 69th time this year in cooperation with the Darüşşafaka Association and Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları, writer Ayşegül Devecioğlu was deemed worthy of the award. The Selection Committee, consisting of famous names, unanimously decided to give this year's award to Ayşegül Devecioğlu's Anatomy Lesson, "for her stories in which she shows different ways of looking at the world, human relations, and social compromises, and which she writes in cold-blooded, finely-tuned sentences, avoiding the outbursts of emotions that can easily lead to ostentation."
