The 2020 winner of the Booker Prize, which is considered one of the most respected literary awards in the world, was Scottish-American writer Douglas Stuart with his novel Shuggie Bain. Apart from the Booker Prize, this novel, which was awarded the "Book of the Year" and the "Best First Novel Award" at the British Book Awards, was published by Can Publishing with the translation of Duygu Akın.
Shuggie Bain tells the story of Shuggie Bain, the youngest of three children who grew up in Glasgow in the 1980s and grew up with their alcoholic mother. The following sentences on the back cover clearly reveal the impressiveness of the book: “A heartbreaking story of addiction, sexuality, and love, Shuggie Bain is an epic portrayal of a working-class family that is rarely seen in fiction. Recalling the work of Édouard Louis, Alan Hollinghurst, Frank McCourt, and Hanya Yanagihara, it is a blistering debut by a brilliant novelist who has a powerful and important story to tell.”
