 Giant Portrait of Âşık Veysel Made of 25 Thousand Handfuls of Earth


Famous Turkish folk artist Âşık Veysel was commemorated on his 50th death anniversary with his giant portrait made 25,000 handfuls of earth in Bodrum, dedicated to the lines "My faithful half is black earth".


A special commemoration event was held in Muğla's Bodrum district on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of Âşık Veysel. Photographer Cumhur Aygün, who took the lead of the project, realized the giant portrait of Âşık Veysel with 25,000 handfuls of soil within the scope of the project he carried out with Gümüşlük Sia Familia in the Sia Familia region, where the historical and natural beauties.

Expressing that he is very happy to be a part of such a valuable organization, Aygün counted the most important reasons for choosing Sia Familia for the event, as the natural and historical texture of the region, as well as the cradle of many civilizations. Aygün also stated that they are proud of having realized the first artistic event in this environment, which adds value to Bodrum and is intertwined with nature. Preliminary preparations for the study were made for two months. This project was realized with the work of a project team of 20 people in approximately 5 days. Aygün said, “The Âşık Veysel Black Earth Project is the first giant portrait created with soil measuring 25×35 meters.” he said.
