 "Independence and Mehmet Akif Ersoy" Event Was Held


IGU Turkish Language and Literature Department Language, Thought and Literature Club organized an online event titled "Independence and Mehmet Akif Ersoy".


The event titled "Independence and Mehmet Akif Ersoy" was held online on Monday, 15.03.2021, between 20.30-21.30 on the Google Meet platform. IGU Turkish Language and Literature faculty members, Language Thought and Literature Club members, and students attended the event. The event started with the opening speech of Asst. Prof. Pelin Ekşi, Head of the Turkish Language and Literature Department, continued with the students' reciting our National Anthem. Afterward, the students gave speeches on the topics "Battle of Gallipoli and Mehmet Akif", "The Writing Process of the Independence Anthem," and "The Passing of Mehmet Akif". Asst. Prof Mehmet Ünal Şahin voiced Mehmet Akif Ersoy's poem "To Dardanelles Martyrs". Additionally, Mehmet Akif's "Zulmü Alkışlayamam" and "Birlik" poems were also recited by the students. The event was completed with the presentation of Musab Doğan, the President of the Language, Thought and Literature Club, supported with visuals about the last period of Mehmet Akif Ersoy's life and his funeral.
