 Istanbul Gelisim University Represented at the 8th Erasmus+ Week of the International Balkan University


Istanbul Gelisim University took part in the 8th Erasmus+ International Staff Week hosted by the International Balkan University in Skopje, North Macedonia, with participation from 50 representatives across 8 countries.


Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) participated in the 8th Erasmus+ International Staff Week organized by the International Balkan University (IBU) in Skopje, North Macedonia, between May 5–9, 2025. The event brought together 50 academic and administrative staff members representing 31 universities from 8 different countries.

The Erasmus+ Week aimed to promote key European Union priorities such as digital transformation, inclusivity, and international academic collaboration.

The Opening Ceremony, held at IBU Campus, featured welcoming speeches by IBU Rector Prof. Dr. Lutfi Sunar and Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator Prof. Dr. Snezana Bilic. Prof. Sunar emphasized IBU’s mission to deliver high-quality education, its growth in academic programs, and its dedication to developing international partnerships. Prof. Bilic highlighted IBU’s success in Erasmus+ projects, particularly its leadership position in North Macedonia in terms of participation and impact.

Representing IGU, Research Assistant Remzi Soytürk from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature delivered a presentation during the session titled “University Promotion and Collaboration Opportunities.” He introduced IGU’s academic programs, international initiatives, and Erasmus+ mobility strategies. He also engaged in productive discussions with participants from other institutions on potential academic and administrative partnerships.

Participants had the opportunity to tour the IBU campus, visiting advanced laboratories, clinics, and other modern educational facilities that reflect the university's commitment to excellence in infrastructure and teaching.

In addition to academic sessions, cultural trips were organized to important heritage sites such as Matka Canyon and the UNESCO World Heritage city of Ohrid, offering participants insight into the region's historical and cultural richness.

This year’s program also celebrated the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education, including sessions that addressed the need for developing digital skills and responsible technology use in today’s interconnected world.

The Erasmus+ Week concluded on May 9 with a closing ceremony during which all participants were awarded their Erasmus+ Participation Certificates, marking the successful completion of a week dedicated to international cooperation, cultural exchange, and academic advancement.
