 Kutlug Elteriş Kagan Monument Found!


Archaeological studies carried out in Mongolia uncovered a monumental complex thought to belong to Kutlug Elteriş Kagan, the founder of the Second Gokturk State. The mention of the name "Turk" on the monument excited. With this discovery, a Turkish inscription older than the Orkhon (Köktürk) Inscriptions, which is thought to have been used for the first time in history, was found.


As a result of the excavations carried out in the Ötüken region of Mongolia in cooperation with the International Turkic Academy and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences Archeology Institute, a complex and an inscription, which is considered to belong to Kutlug Elteriş Kagan, the father of Bilge Kagan and Köl Tigin, rulers of the Köktürk State, were found. In the statement made by the authorities, it was noted that a 49 square meter complex was discovered and the upper part of the inscription and its turtle-shaped foundation were found in front of the part of this complex that is considered as a place of worship.
 
It was stated that the Kutlug Elteriş Kagan Inscription has 19 lines (12 readable lines) of old Turkish script on the obverse, and the old Sogdian script on the third side. The scientists involved in the excavations identified a number of words in the inscription, such as “Tengri”, “Turk”, “Kutlug”, “Tumen”. With this important development, which made a great impression in the Turkish world, a Turkish inscription older than the Orkhon (Köktürk) Inscriptions, which is thought to have been used for the first time in history, was found.
