Veba Geceleri, which can be considered as a historical novel as a genre, handles the plague epidemic as a subject. The novel takes place on Minger Island, an imaginary Ottoman island around Crete-Cyprus-Rhodes, during the reign of Abdülhamit II. In 1901, the stories in the novel begin with the third plague epidemic in Minger Island, the 29th province of the Ottoman Empire. In the novel, Orhan Pamuk narrates the effect of the plague epidemic on people and especially on children within the framework of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
