The Turkic Academy was officially established in 2012 as an international organization under the auspices of the "Organization of Turkic States" by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye to coordinate joint scientific research in the fields of language, literature, culture and history and to evaluate the contribution of ancient Turkish civilization to humanity by examining it based on original sources.
The 3rd meeting of the Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, between 9-11 September, in cooperation with the Turkic Academy and the Turkish Language Association. In the statement made by the Turkic Academy and the Turkish Language Association (TDK), it was emphasized that the Latin-based Common Turkish Alphabet project, which was first proposed by scientists in 1991, was reviewed in detail at the meeting and the commission members made the necessary determinations regarding the points that needed to be developed in this project. As a result of this study, a consensus was reached on the proposal for a Common Turkic Alphabet consisting of 34 letters and based on Latin. It was stated that each letter in the proposed alphabet represents different phonemes found in Turkic languages. The statement also evaluated that "The development of the Common Turkic Alphabet promotes mutual understanding and cooperation among Turkic peoples while also preserving their linguistic heritage."
