The Deputy Minister in Kosovo, Gjergi Dedaj was discharged due to his social media post under the title "Witches of Balkans", where he targeted Turkey.
He was later appointed as Kosovo's ambassador to Macedonia. Istanbul Gelisim University, Department of Political Science and International Relations lecturer Assistant Professor Dr. Fatih Fuat Tuncer evaluated this decision: "This statement of Dedaj has re-ignited the discussions that Turkish society was being ignored and humiliated in Kosovo. As the Turks in Kosovo have denunciated Dedaj, the latest news from Kosovo really disappointed Turkish community. President Hasim Thaci signed the decree appointing Dedaj as ambassador to Macedonia, which is like a present."

SOCIAL PEACE IN BALKANS WILL BE UNDERMINED

Considering the Albanian and Turkish population in Macedonia, Tuncer said that this debate could also be carried to Macedonia. He added: "There are some questions. Macedonia is on the verge of nationalist debates because of the ongoing discussions with Greece about the name of country and it is true that the appointment of someone who uses racist rhetoric such as Dedaj during such a period is not the right thing to do. If an attack to Albanian and Turkish societies occur in Macedonia or Greece, what will Dedaj do?”

Tuncer continued: “The expectations of Turks in Macedonia and Kosovo is to see Turkey objecting this decision. Turkey is one of the most powerful states in the region and in an alliance with Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia. It is expected from Turkey to prevent Dedaj’s appointment to Macedonia, which is a clear insult to Turkish people living in Macedonia. The results of policies by Jivkov in Bulgaria and by Milosevic in Yugoslavia are tragic. If people like Dedaj are encouraged, the social peace in Balkans will be undermined. Therefore, regional countries and EU should also condemn this decision. And the President of Macedonia, Ivanov, should not accept this person as an ambassador in his country.”
