Assoc. Prof. Ayşe Meriç Yazıcı Receives New Patent: Biomimetic Plasma Steering Platform

Assoc. Prof. Ayşe Meriç Yazıcı, a faculty member of the Department of International Trade and Business, has achieved a significant milestone in advanced technology by securing a patent for her invention titled “Biomimetic Plasma Steering Platform.”

Developed by Assoc. Prof. Yazıcı and registered on behalf of Istanbul Gelişim University, this innovative invention has been officially approved and protected by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. The application, submitted on December 30, 2025, was granted on February 23, 2026, providing patent protection for a period of 20 years.

Assoc. Prof. Yazıcı’s work is based on a biomimetic approach inspired by nature. In particular, the system models the behavior of lightning, which follows the path of least resistance in the atmosphere, enabling controlled and dynamic steering of plasma flow. The developed platform operates with high precision through sensors that analyze environmental data in real time, detecting ion density and variations in electric fields.

The system consists of advanced engineering components, including high-temperature-resistant materials, electromagnetic field-generating coils, plasma form modulators, and controlled output nozzles. This structure allows for safer, more efficient, and more sustainable plasma control.

With a wide range of potential applications—from energy technologies and defense industry to space research and advanced engineering—this invention represents a remarkable achievement. We congratulate our esteemed faculty member and wish her continued success.
