A Talk on “The Impact of Photography in Advertising” Held by the Advertising Department

The Advertising Department of Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, hosted Tolga Yangırlıgil, a Photography and Visual Communication Specialist, for an inspiring talk. The event, held on November 17, 2025, at the Firnas Auditorium in K Block, attracted remarkable interest from advertising students. The session was moderated by the Head of the Advertising Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yelda Ülker.

During the talk, the transformative power of photography in the field of advertising, the ways visual communication shapes brand perception, and the influence of photographic imagery on consumer behavior were discussed in detail. Drawing on his extensive industry experience, Tolga Yangırlıgil explained the decisive role of photography in advertising campaigns, the importance of visual language in creative processes, and the added value a well-constructed photograph brings to a brand through selected case studies.

Participants had the opportunity to analyze visuals from various advertising campaigns, learning how to evaluate a photograph in terms of composition, lighting, color use, and emotional impact. Yangırlıgil emphasized that in the digital age—where visual density is higher than ever—brands must position themselves with simple, effective, and memorable photographs to secure a strong place in consumers’ minds.
The event took on an interactive structure as students asked questions about the photographic production process. Trends in advertising photography, AI-assisted image creation, aesthetic preferences, and the relationship between brand identity and photography were among the prominent topics discussed.

This talk, organized by the Advertising Department, was evaluated as an important event that contributed to students’ academic and sectoral perspectives. The university noted that it will continue to bring professionals from the fields of advertising and visual communication together with students in the upcoming periods.
