 Advertising Department Held an Event with Mehmet Erdem Uprak, Founder of Chef New Media Advertising Agency


A conversation titled "Use of Social Media in the Business World" was held with Mehmet Erdem Uprak, Founder of Chef New Media Advertising Agency organized by Istanbul Gelişim University, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Advertising Department.


Founder of Chef New Media Advertising Agency Mehmet Erdem Uprak, who was a speaker at the conversation titled "Use of Social Media in the Business World" organized by the Advertising Department, gave a conversation on the successful management of social media in the business world. The event moderated by Advertising Department Research Assistant Aydan Ünlükaya, was held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 between 13:00 and 14:00 on Google Meet.
 

Uprak started the conversation by informing about how social media used by people for entertainment purposes has turned into a marketing medium. The conversation proceeded with Uprak's information on the areas of social media advertisements, what a new company should pay attention to when opening a social media account, how advertising works on social media can attract the target audience, and digital marketing channels.
 

Stating that, with the increasing time people spend on social media today, advertising agencies use this platform as a marketing tool, Uprak emphasized that advertising on social media is much more advantageous, especially in terms of cost. Uprak explained that marketing is not managed through a single field, but also through various methods such as billboards, brochures, television advertisements, influencer marketing, depending on the budget.
 

Emphasizing that in the use of social media in the business world, the advertising agencies pay attention to the compatibility between the corporate identity of the company and the social media account, Uprak said that these accounts should be used regularly; he expressed it with the words; "When introducing a new company to social media for the first time, we prefer to open accounts such as Instagram, Facebook, Google Business, Linkedln first. These are indispensable. It is always advantageous for the company to be in channels such as Youtube, Twitter, Tiktok, depending on the area of interest. Using these channels regularly provides great advantages to both companies and advertising agencies.”. In this context, Uprak stated that in accordance with the corporate identity, attention should be paid to the harmony of the colors in the company's social media account, the quality of the images and videos used, the design, the accuracy of the information and grammar rules.
 

In the conversation, it was emphasized that companies that want to promote their products on social media channels avoid fake followers and continuous sharing, include entertaining content in their posts, draw attention with awards such as coupons, sweepstakes and gift certificates in order to attract the target audience.
 

Expressing that the internet is a big area to catch potential customers, Uprak focused on various digital marketing channels within the scope of web usage such as website, Google Adwords, Mailing;  social media usage such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Youtube. Stating that there should be competence and knowledge in various subjects in social media management, Uprak emphasized the necessity of using various channels with the newly developing technology while managing social media. Uprak stated that the best time for sharing on social media is between 09:00 and 11:00 on weekdays, and the worst time is between 22:00 and 06:00 in the evening, as each company may differ according to the target audience.
 

Finally, Uprak showed our students the technical dimension of the use of social media in the business world by designing a sample advertising campaign from Facebook's Ad Manager and Content Studio panels. In this context, Uprak focused on issues such as how the target audience and the budget are determined when organizing an advertising campaign on social media, the issues to be considered in determining the target audience, the date and location of the posts.
